We are a small group of people, who want to bring you near the art
of Africa. We are admireres of
ebony carvings of wamakonde, but also such carvings of
Iroko(african oak wood), rose, neem, and teak woods.
Besides makonde arts,
we engage ourselves with african artists, who use other materials
such as soapstones, silver as rawmaterials to finish up their
pieces.
Development aid
usually is based on the governments of western world giving money
and help schemes to the so called third world countries. Mostly
the one who do not benefit from these are those who were supposed
to get the help.
A Tanzanian, living
more than thirty years in Germany works with a group of makonde
artists in Tanzania. The idea is to establish a market for their
products, and so ensure them a regular income and existance for
themselves and their families.
